Message from Barrington...

To The Family, Friends and fans of Gerald Levert… 

Upon receiving the news and dealing with the initial shock and dismay from the unanticipated death of my brotha, Gerald Levert, it was so heavy, I had to pause for the cause…the cause to reflect on this thing called life; and more specifically, death which is an extension of life and, in a sense, runs concurrent. For some, they’re dying while they’re living; and for some others, they’re living while they’re dying. Then you have that select minority who are living while they’re living. When I think of Gerald, I think of a man who was of that select group – who lived life to the fullest and accomplished quite a bit in his 40 short years.  

I had the pleasure of working with Gerald on a project and spiritually connecting with him. He was a consummate professional in every aspect, who worked with confidence and such a down-to-earth, loveable nature that was automatic and just plain natural; no frontin’. He had a robust laugh that could warm anybody’s heart.  

Death always brings on that same, familiar, painful thud in your heart and raises that uncanny question as to why; but who are we to ever question God’s work? Like Luther, Gerald and so many other greats, they’re God’s property. They have touched many hearts and souls along the way through God’s gift – so ultimately, all that needs to be said is…Lord Thank You! 

Eddie, my fellow Gemini – Soul Brotha #1, my deepest condolences to you and your family – I feel you. But let this be the wind beneath your wings to carry you on stronger and keep setting that same, beautiful example that was the wind beneath his wings and inspired him to be all that he was – that’s the positive side – it’s a continual process. So it’s still all good in God’s neighborhood – and God is still in the blessing business!

I’ve been truly inspired by Gerald’s work and his legacy. God Bless the Leverts.
